PAN Application by NRI-Non-Indian – Difference

PAN Application by  NRI-Non-Indian – Difference

An NRI as well as citizens of about 105 countries (Non-Indians / Foreigners)) can hold Indian Pan Card . There are following apparent differences in the PAN Application by  NRI-Non-Indian (Foreigner)  :-

1. NRI PAN application may be filed in Form 49A (with Indian Address) and 49AA both. Whereas foreigner’s application will be filed only in Form 49AA .

2. NRI pancard may be delivered at Indian as well as his/her abroad address.  Whereas in case of Non-Indian applicant, his / her pan card will be delivered in his/her country only. However, delivery can be made in India if  such foreigner is  under employment in India.

3. Due to costly postal charges, pan application fee for Non-Indians is very high. For example – and are charging Rs. 1,500/- for Non-indians. Whereas this rate is only Rs. 190/- if delivery is taken in India by an NRI.

4. NRI can use any ID proof allowed to Indian Applicants (if delivery is taken in India) and therefore,  there are plenty options with an NRI but the Non-Indian Applicants have very limited options for ID proofs.
